Stories about bubble era Japan
Instructions
Part 1: Tell a Bubble Era Story
Choose option A, B, or C from below.
Option A: Think about a family member who lived in Japan during the 1980s. What was their experience like? Did they work long hours? Spend lots of money?
Option B: Visit the Manaba website and read the article 'Japan in the 1980s'. Choose one of the facts and write a short story about someone whose life was affected by it.
Option C: Do a quick internet search for other stories from Japan's bubble era. Use one as inspiration for your own story.
Part 2: Bubble Era Thoughts
After you write about your chosen option above, ask yourself: Would I have enjoyed living in Japan during the bubble era? Explain your reasons.
Example (Option b):
Hiroko loved her job at the trading company. The pay was fantastic, and she enjoyed the fancy after-work dinners with clients. But the hours were brutal! One night, she saw on TV that property prices were crazy. She'd never own a place of her own at this rate.
My Thoughts:
The bubble era sounds exciting, but also exhausting. The chance to earn lots of money is tempting, but those long hours and high prices would be tough. I like a more balanced life, so I think I'd prefer things as they are today.
